Artist Statement
Through film and my work, I want to bring the fascination into everyday
life again and the lessons that life has taught me. Something as simple as the
sky, ocean, city, to the things we own and see every day is very mesmerizing
but we usually don’t see the beauty in them. Through certain visual aesthetics
and music, I want to show how beautiful the world and simplicity is. Through
the use of color and different surreal narratives I want to touch on the themes
of fate, perceptive and dreams. Some of my favorite filmmakers and inspirations
come from the works of David Lynch, Terrence Malik, Alejandro González Iñárritu,
and Christopher Nolan.
Films taught me a
lot about the world and in a sense shaped my thoughts, ideas and beliefs I have
now. Whenever I felt something but couldn’t put into words or express it, I turned
to films which always seemed to put my feelings into a visual narrative I could
learn and connect to it. Films had the power to make the world fascinating and
makes me feel like a child.
I began finding
interest in art at a very young age since my parents put me in art classes when
I first began attending school. From here I was exposed to many different styles
of art that would influence my work. My favorite forms of art were cubism,
surrealism, expressionism, minimalism and enjoyed simplicity. From here I realized
I loved film making and wanted to create art through that medium. I was always
a visual person and I always saw the world as a movie. Whenever I saw something
I liked or read I would make a movie in my head rather than thinking of a
painting, writing, or drawing.
